After weeks of rain the drought is over and the rivers are full. There should a be window of opportunity as the river drops and the colour drains from the water when conditions are perfect to catch the salmon and sea trout that have forged upstream.
So when I cast a line on the river Torridge this weekend confidence was high. It was a touch high perhaps and just a little too much colour. But enthusiasm told me I should catch. It is always a delight to fish was confidence and belief and this I did right up until the last cast. I had a couple of pulls when I put on a bigger fly which gave me more hope and a dozen more last casts. As I left the river I thought if only I could fish tomorrow when conditions will be perfect!
