Putsborough Competition
It is hard to believe that this years Putsborough match was the clubs 20th. This is an event I always enjoy despite my failure to catch. As much as anything its good to see local anglers both fresh faces and familiar ones. There is always an expectation before the match that someone will land something special as happened a couple of years ago when Kevin Legge hooked a tope of 44lb. A fish I was privileged to wrestle from the water for Kevin. This was one of the first fish to be weighed and released at the event.
The club has now turned the event into a catch and release one in line with the clubs ethos of conservation. As the Ammo slogan says; “If its not for tea set it free”.
Catch and release matches are surely the only way to go. So much better to release the fish than bring them lifeless to the scales sadly in the past many were simply dumped.
Putsborough is a classic surf beach and it is always enthralling beside the surging water on a summers night classic sea fishing I feel. The only downside to the match is that I am always rather tired and jaded the following day!
