Its hard to believe that its spring once again and that the countryside is awakening from its winter slumbers. It’s a great time for the all-round angler with trout and salmon on the agenda as well as a wealth of coarse species.
In the past few weeks I have returned to the river in search of a silver salmon and cast a line for Stillwater brown trout.
On the coast grey mullet are moving in and I caught a pleasing fish of 3lb 11oz on my first session. I blanked on the next but that’s to be expected, as the fish do not tend to feed hard during the cold days of early spring.
The next few weeks have much to offer as warmer days lengthen and evening sessions become a realistic option. It will be time to dust off the LRF gear and explore the coast delighting in the fun of small species on light tackle.
Top of the wish list will be salmon or a big mullet. If time permits a trip after a big perch could be very tempting.
